I recently went from 2x2TB to 2圆TB and kinda wish I'd done the 4bay instead. Personally, if you can afford it & have the shelf space to hold it, go for the 4bay. But that all turns into a balancing act between quality, bitrate & data caps for the remote viewing device. Transcoding video to send it outside the house is the point where the hardware in the NAS really takes over for video. This will be especially true if you add 4K - you want your viewing devices to be able to do the work & not have the NAS trying to transcode or remux the video to fit the viewer. My TVs are still 720p & only the phones are higher resolution) If all your viewing devices are fairly recent models, most of the work should be done by them & the built in decoders the NAS will just feed the raw data across the network for them to process. I use Plex & have a DS720+ feeding into 2 Roku & 3 Android phones. R/plex is also a good place to ask, if that's the software you plan on using.
